What Happens When A Person Dies Part Two Of Four
Why is death called a sleep?
It is because the dead do not know anything. In certain stages of sleep the dead cannot move and do not know what is going on around them. It is also called a sleep because one day when Jesus returns He will give life to the righteous dead and it will be like if they are awaking from out of sleep.
Proof that the dead do not know anything:
“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” (Eccles. 9:5,6,10)
“His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” (Psa. 146:4)
“For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?” (Psa. 6:5)
“The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.” (Psa. 115:17)
“For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.” (Isa. 38:18)
To say that the dead do not remain in the grave is a grave error.
