The Top Six Bible Verses on Swine (Pigs)
What’s the dirt on these creatures?
(1) Pigs are unclean
“And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.” (Deut. 14:8) (See Lev. 11:7)
For those of you that did not know that pigs are unclean, here it is in black and white. They are so dirty that the Bible singled them out as unclean. It is ironic that people who scorn locusts and grasshoppers which are clean to eat according to the Bible will eat pigs which are unclean. (See Lev. 11:22). Even medical science warns about pigs and the disease trichinosis that they cause. There is no need to dig up dirt on pigs. They do a fine job by themselves.
(2) Pigs are lumped together with abomination
Isa 66:17 “They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine‘s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.”
(3) Elections?
“As a jewel of gold in a swine‘s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.” (Prov. 11:22)
This sort of reminds me of a certain campaign trail where there was talk of putting lipstick on a pig. Ouch! All other comparisons pale into insignificance. I call no names. Let us not be “pignorant.”
(4) Possessed Pigs
When demons came out of a possessed man with Herculean strength, they begged Jesus to let them go into a herd of pigs and Jesus allowed them. Would He have allowed them if they had asked to go into a herd of sheep?
“And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.” (Mark 5:12,13)
