What Does The Bible say About Life On Other Planets?
Does the Bible say anything about life on other planets? If so what does it say? The science-conscious ones among us may say that science has not discovered any such planet and that conditions on other planets do not allow for man’s existence on them. However, science has often played catch-up with the Bible and science has not surveyed all of the universe. Decade after decade a new star or asteroid is discovered. Even right here on the earth scientists are now discovering new species of animals so they cannot declare that they know everything that is to be known. They are still bent on making medicines that cause the very things that they are supposed to control or cure. Then let us look at what God has to say since it was He anyway that created the universe but we are not talking aliens and UFOs or little green men but people like you and me.
The two main texts on this topic are both found in the book of Hebrews.
1. Hebrews 1:1,2 says:
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”
2. Hebrews 11:3 adds:
“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by theword of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
So there are two texts in the New Testament that state that Jesus made, not the world, but the worlds – plural! Some may say that “worlds” means planets like Mars, Venus and Jupiter but worlds and planets are two different things. Mars is not a world. A world is an inhabited planet.
Less conclusive are the references to “sons of God” who existed around the time of the creation of the earth. (See Job 38;4,7). They were mentioned previously in Job 1:6; 2:1. Whatever we make of those references we cannot deny that twice in Hebrews we are told that Jesus made the worlds and the only world we know presently is the earth so that means that once we believe the Bible these inhabited worlds are located in another part of the universe. You be the judge.
