The Investigative Judgment of Dan. 8:14 (Part Three of Four)
Part Three in this series on the 2300 years prophecy deals with the third segment of the prophecy. I strongly suggest that you read Part One and Two of this series first before attempting to understand this. We have seen that the second segment runs from 408 BC to 27 AD, a period of 434 years (or 62 prophetic weeks) as indicated in Dan. 9:25. Let us look now at the third period of time from 27 AD to 34 AD.

(1) 27 AD to 34 AD (1 week = 7 days = 7 years)
We saw in Part Two that in 27 AD Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit at His baptism and said so when He started His ministry in a synagogue quoting from Isa. 61:1. There are seven years that stretch from the start of His ministry in 27 AD to the end of the Jews’ probation as both the 70 prophetic weeks or 490 years as well as the 1 prophetic week of the prophecy end in that year. Seven years from 27 AD takes us to 34 AD. Did the Jews comply with God’s command to make an end of sins among other things by this time? Well, you be the judge. Three and a half years before this period ended the Jews crucified Jesus and then three and a half years later the Jews stoned Stephen, a name that means “crown.” They then continued the persecution of those who believed in Christ who were later called Christians. It is in 31 AD that what we know as the Christian Church as an organization, was born. Christianity as a precept was always there but this was the first time that the name was associated with an organized Church.
There is another detail that makes this Bible prophecy even more fascinating. The prophecy had already had some startling fulfillments – the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, the prophesied year for the walls of Jerusalem to be rebuilt under troubling conditions, the year that Jesus would start His ministry being anointed and now we come to a detail that deals with Jesus’ death. This prophecy predicted the very year that Jesus would die and how long His ministry would be. No other Bible prophecy reveals that!
Dan. 9:27 says “And he [Jesus] shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease ….”
This text tells us that in the midst or middle of the week or seven years Jesus would be “cut off” or die. In the middle of the seven years stretching from 27 AD to 34 AD Jesus was crucified. He was crucified in 31 AD. There are three and a half years from Jesus’ baptism in 27 AD to His crucifixion in 31 AD and three and a half years from 31 AD to 34 AD.
Did Jesus also at that time “cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease” as Dan. 9:27 predicted? Matt. 27:50,51 says of Jesus’ dying moments:
“Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent.”
To summarize, the third segment of the 2300 years prophecy lasts seven years which is divided into two three and a half year periods. It is from Jesus’ ministry in 27 AD to the end of the probation given to the Jews to make an end of sins. In the middle of that seven year period Jesus was crucified and the veil in the temple was ripped from top to bottom by an unseen hand. In Part Four we will look at the fourth and final segment of the prophecy which culminates in 1844.
