A Bible Health Rule Concerning Meat and Blood
Do you make sure that blood is not in your meat? What does the Bible say about that? Long before people saw the danger of
blood transfusions (though they have their place) the Bible said that
meat-eaters must not eat meat with the blood still in it. We saw that there are
clean and unclean meats. However, in God’s eyes even the clean meats would be
unclean if eaten with the blood still in it. Why is this? The blood of any
creature is “the life of the flesh.” Here are some Bible texts that establish
this rule.Gen. 9:4 “But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”
Lev. 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
Lev. 17:14 “For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.”
Deut. 12:23 “Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.”
God knew that since the blood was so essential to living that whatever diseases the animal had would be given to man through man eating it. The blood of animals gives all sorts of diseases. The blood of humans gives all types of diseases including AIDS. But the blood of Jesus aids us to live spiritually. We surely can be positive about that! Yes, as Lev. 17:11 says “it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
